TerraForce, an innovative agricultural technology company, has recently been unveiled at The Pantheon in Vincennes. The company aims to revolutionize farm labor through the integration of AI and robotics.
Founded by CEO Michial J. Jacob, TerraForce develops machine learning and robotic automation technologies designed to enhance the harvesting of fruits and vegetables. In a recent news conference, Jacob, who has lived in Vincennes for the past decade, expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the local community.
“The change that’s happened in the past decade has been great, but what does the next decade look like? That’s up to us,” Jacob remarked. He hopes that TerraForce represents progress and inspiration for future advancements.
TerraForce’s AI-driven harvester can identify, grade, and harvest large fruits such as watermelons, pumpkins, and cantaloupes. Jacob claims this technology could reduce labor costs significantly, potentially saving nearly $700 per acre. He emphasized the necessity of such innovations in order for American farmers to remain competitive with lower-cost labor from abroad.
Jacob pointed out the importance of The Pantheon’s Ag Tech Initiative in nurturing agricultural innovation, noting that over 90% of TerraForce’s funding has come from local investors in Knox County. “This will pay dividends for all of us,” he stated, emphasizing that local investment is crucial for fostering high-growth startups.
Despite facing some technical challenges, Jacob remains optimistic, claiming, “This is the first AI-driven watermelon harvester in the world.” He encouraged the community to continue supporting local entrepreneurship, highlighting that involvement with startups is essential for progress.
